 MuseMachine 2003 - 2006

2005

The Comapny took The Reality Checker by Peter Yates to Edinburgh performing at the DeMarco Roxy Arthouse, aka Rocket. The play was a chilling thriller with Pattie [Caroline Harford making her Edinburgh debut] persued by a sadistic killer. Set in Liverpool and played out to a soundtrack of Beatles music, we found the first week slow in audience terms but this picked up in the second. Though Three Weeks didn't like it much, audience reaction was always very positive. Chris Bhantoa [now at LAMDA and see RECENT WORK INCLUDES...] gave an excellent performance in the central role of Kite and Pat Clark [Stuart] dug out every ounce of humour from his portrayal of the innocent and naive student. An excellent Technical Team, led by Dom Yates who conned the Venue into allowing us to keep all our extra lights hung permanently [as well as re-patching the Venue's own lights] dealt with this logistcally intensive production with great panache [again not appreciated by the Three Weeks reviewer]. Lesson for future Edinburgh shows: no set, no props, no extras.

In February, the Company, under its new name MuseMachine, took  two shows to the Cockpit for the Theatre in the Pound season. These were The Secret Art of Auditions [part one] and a sequence from Glyn Maxwell's one man show The Best Man with Danny Swanson in the eponymous role. These two shows then became part of the Company's most ambitious Edinburgh programme to date - four shows: The Secret Art of Auditions [3 parts] by Peter Yates; The Best Man by Glyn MaxwellMore To Life Than Sex by Peter Yates; Devoid Of Ears by Adam Shindler & Tom Martin.

Hidden Agenda 2002-2003

2003

This year saw the Company take a break from Edinburgh. In October, at the opening of  New Place, the new St. Albans School Drama Department facility, Danny Swanson and Adam Shindler performed The Night Manager alongside a piece especially written for the occasion by Peter Yates and directed by Jon Croker. This was the first part of The Secret Art of Auditions, the whole play (three parts in all) destined for the Fringe in 2004.

2002

The Company now morphed into Hidden Agenda to promote its most ambitious project to date. Sins Attached was a full-scale musical with four piece band and music by Michael Dyer. The show featured the the great vocal talents of Sophie Higgins, Georgie McBrierty and Adam Shindler; Oliver Black played the Devil with great aplomb, and Tom Martin grunted along in the background. Despite being panned by the critics this was a great show, loved by audiences. Directed by Peter Yates and James Marshall, the show was performed at Augustine's Studio. The Scotsman's reviewer used three words to describe it: "appalling", "shocking" and "diabolical". This led directly to a researcher on the BBC TV programme The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly contacting the company and subsequently recruiting Peter as the "Bad" director in the show that was aired in March 2003. The proceeds funded the next projects.

Sins Attached previewed at the newly opened Trestle Arts Base in St. Albans. We were the first professional company to perform to an audience at this facility which includes an excellent studio space.

In October, the Company returned to the Cockpit with a highly successful revival of The Night Manager (from The Losers' Guide to the Modern World). This saw Danny Swanson team up with Adam Shindler to play the roles of hapless hotel guest and jobs-worth Night Manager respectively, directed by Jon Croker.
